My 25th B’day!!!

Well its not good to reveal ones age, but then its not everyday that you complete silver jubilee of your life. Hmmm… I don’t know  about the feelings. I mean how you are supposed to feel, old, fresh, don’t know. but one thing which I have realised is this is a journey called Life. It teaches us everything. It makes you more experienced, mature, develop in you a tendency of taking everything with a pinch of life. from childhood to youth, you experience every emotion on the face of the earth(probably more than you learn in life-skills training). in this phase of 25 years, I have met many people, only few have stayed on to become permanent in my life. Have experienced happiness,sorrow,tragedy,ecstacy,love,despair,hate..probably everything..

Have seen more than few struggles, have tasted success and have spent wonderful moments with friends.. have led independent life, moved on,got confused.. did everything under the sun.. well now for the next 25 years, i hope i get to do everything under the Moon…

Thanks life for having taught me such precious lessons that even amnesia cannot take away from me..

As Robert Frost says,” There are miles to go before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep.”

Lost childhood

Saturday evening…. Me n my  mum-in-law went to have ‘mehndi’ designed on our hands. The guy who was sitting at the mehndi counter was.. a 16 year old boy from UP. They had received their training of the art(well, drawing mehndi is an art in itself) from Jaipur and were working under some person(who probably had brought them here)..No education…no dreams..just a simple dream to earn money so as to make them capable of earning food and can support family…

This is one of those numerous instances where I have just wondered where the childhood or adolescence of this children would go???? Many children(legally under 18 are termed as children) like my mehndi guy , have lost their childhood somewhere. They have become more adults then probably the adults themselves.Pressure to earn and fend their family have led them to migrate to other states(and many  of these children come from villages) and at a tender age leave their families. They are  devoid of all their fundamental rights(right to education, right to live, right to play) but we do not care!! Do we?…… we just are bothered by whether we ll able to manage tickets for Dark Knight, manage to eat outside ,get good clothes to wear.. But we are never bothered about the small child asking for food at the McD outlet,we are not bothered about the barely out of teen boy working at a tea stall, we are not bothered by the young and adolescent daughteR of our domestic help who accompanies her regularly… have we ever stopped and thought about all this.. I see all this but i dont have the courage to say “No”..

Its about time we pay more attention to these small facts n incidences. Its about time that we have to recognise child as the most vulnerable one and take actions..n more importantly we need to ask ourselves what we can do to help de cause as an individual, group, community and member of the society. Can we bring back their childhood????

My new office

At 5:40pm, as I sit in the office, I wonder on many things. (kyoki kaam nai karna ho to that is the great bahana). The place where I work SAATH,is an amazing place to work.In just a  span of 3 months I have made many friends. I dont know whether it is because of the post taht i hold here or is it justr because the environment is such. when people harp about their monotonous job and hazardous working environments, I just reflect how amazing the working environment is here. SAATH essentially strives in achieving equitable learning environment for the underpriveledged. be it children, environmental issues, rehabilitation and resettlement, education, housing, child rights, women empowerment.. it has done it all. The varied nature of work is the USP  of SAATH. There is not a single moment of monotony. it truly defines the word” creativity revisited”. We also have interns all over the year which keep the environment of SAATH colorful.

In this span of 3 months,I have enjoyed my work thoroughly here with the freedom given is a refreshing experience.
